Ministry of Cigars owner Ferdinand Piet was born in The Netherlands. He started to smoke cigars on a trip to Singapore and Indonesia, late 2005. Bought a bunch of Cohiba, Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta at Changi Airport. In Indonesia, every night Ferdinand and his friends would smoke a cigar and indulge in a glass of whisky also, he liked it so much that Ferdinand maxed out his credit card on the way home at the same Changi Airport duty free shop.

After joining a Dutch online forum, Ferdinands’ quest for more knowledge started. In a later stage he became the owner of the website, and turned it from just a forum to a blog and forum. It was the No.1 source for cigar news for The Netherlands. After he started to work as a sales rep for the largest independent cigar importer/distributor in The Netherlands, Ferdinand had to hand over ownership of the website due to legislation. Quality dropped, and the website, now offline.

Ferdinand then moved to South East Asia and decided to start to blog about cigar news again. But, The Netherlands would be too small to make a living, the American market was already covered but nobody covered the Asia Pacific, African and European market with news. So, he decided that would be his niche. And since he already had a huge network in Europe, due to his previous occupation, it would be easier.

As a sales rep, Ferdinand worked with Drew Estate, Fuente, Padron, Oliva, My Father, Tatuaje, Alec Bradley, PDR, La Palina, Viaje, La Flor Dominicana, E.P. Carrillo, Crowned Heads, Perdomo, Rocky Patel, A.J. Fernandez, Joya de Nicaragua, Plasencia, Kristoff, La Sagrada Familia, Ashton, CLE and many other brands.

He has visited Nicaragua several times and was involved with a book about Nicaraguan cigars, factories and Esteli. The book is called Cigaragua.
