Description

This is a rare find for the collector of tobacciana or items related to cigars etc. It a small Victorian cheroot cigar cutter with silver covers and a steel blade. It is not marked, tests confirm it is 925 for its sterling silver fineness. The cutter comes in its original leatherette box with the original owner’s gold block initials “NB”.

The covers has a repousse decoration of roses and leaves; one side has a small rococo style escutcheon (blank). There is a hole at the end to insert the cheroot; the steel blade has a spring action that when squeezed it passes through the hole to cut the tip. The blade also unfolds and acts a small pen knife. There is provision for a jump ring to attach it to a chain.

It is in very good antique condition. There is a small nick to the end of the blade, some light minor wear and onset of oxidisation. The box is a little time weary, in sound condition with fading. The photos form part of the description and condition report.

Measures: 3.6cm long when closed and 5.5cm when open; weighs 39.8g
